How to choose the right projection screen for you

by ZhouQiaoli 21 Jun 2022 0 Comments

Before choosing a suitable projection screen, you must first understand what type of projector your own projector is. After confirming this, you can start to consider what kind of projection screen to choose.

Notice:
Ultra short throw projectors are only suitable for projecting UST screens
Ordinary telephoto and short-throw projectors cannot project UST screens, and the screen needs to be selected according to the lumens of the projector

Factors to consider when selecting a screen:

1. Types of projection screens & installation methods

(1)Manual screen
Manual landing screens are the most common, and the cheapest, and have the advantage of being affordable and easy to install. The disadvantage is that it is not convenient to use, and during long-term use, the size is too large, and the screen is prone to unevenness due to the effect of tension.

(2)Fixed stand screen
The screen with the fixed bracket is the most portable screen. It is composed of a tripod and a curtain, which is convenient to move and carry at any time. It is more suitable for corporate or work meetings as a display, and it is affordable and easy to use. It is the first choice of many companies.

(3)Electric screen
The electric screen uses a tubular motor to electrically control the screen. The remote control can easily and conveniently control the lifting and lowering of the screen. The two ends of the electric screen will tighten the screen, which can keep the screen flat during long-term use. Moderate and easy to install, it is the first choice for many home theaters and commercial use.

(4)frame screen
The picture frame screen is made of aluminum alloy to make a frame similar to the picture frame, and the screen is placed in the frame, and the screen is flattened by the spring. The picture frame screen is the flattest screen with the best projection image quality and strong contrast, and The price is a little cheaper than the electric pull-wire screen. The disadvantage is that the water cannot be moved, and the screen cannot be put away. It is exposed to the air for a long time, and it is easy to get a lot of dust or oxidation.

 2. Select the material of the screen

You can choose the material of the screen according to your projector type and projection environment
There are many types of screen materials, including white plastic curtains, glass fiber curtains, metal curtains, soft white curtains, anti-light curtains, and sound-transmitting curtains.

(1)white plastic curtain
The white plastic curtain is generally woven from textile threads, with layers on the surface, the gain is closest to 1, the viewing angle is wide, and the price is low, but the color reproduction is average, and many are used for commercial and teaching purposes.

(2)Fiberglass Curtain
The glass fiber curtain is made of glass fiber. The surface is coated and can be divided into white glass fiber and gray glass fiber. The hardness is higher, and the color reproduction is better than that of the white plastic curtain.

(3)Metal curtain
The metal screen is coated with a metal coating on the surface of the screen. It is a high-gain screen. The gain is above .5, the viewing angle is relatively small, and the screen is dark gray. Generally, professional theaters use it more.

(4)Soft white
The soft white screen is made of PVC material, and the surface is covered with an optical coating. The material is soft. The imaging effect depends on the effect of the surface coating. The color reproduction is better than that of white glass fiber and white plastic; the gain is 1.0-1.2, and the visible The angle is large, and it is widely used in home use. Now the frame screen is mostly made of soft white screen material.

(5)Anti-light curtain
The anti-light curtain includes three types: telephoto, black grid, and Fresnel anti-light curtain. It reduces the influence of ambient light by changing the physical structure and optical coating of the screen surface, so as to improve the overall projection picture, making the It can also project well in the daytime
The Fresnel hard screen has the best anti-light effect and relatively high gain, but due to its complex semicircular texture structure, it can only reach a maximum of 100 inches at present, and the price is high

(6)sound screen
The sound-transmitting screen is made by punching holes on the surface of the screen, so that the sound can penetrate the screen, and the double enjoyment of the picture and the sound is the choice of many large theaters and homes with sound.

3. Select the gain of the screen

Gain is an important criterion for judging screens. Screens have different gain coefficients. As the gain coefficient increases, the brightness of the screen will also increase. Screens with a gain greater than 1 belong to high-gain screens. The light is reflected back to the center of the viewing area, making it clearer and brighter for viewers in the middle, and darker for viewers on the sides.
Generally, the selection of screen gain is determined according to the lumens of the projector. If the projection lumen is very low, you can choose a screen with high gain to supplement the contrast of brightness and color. For a screen that is too bright, you can choose a low lumen. The screen comes to the link to neutralize the brightness and make the eyes more comfortable. For example, projectors with lumens between 2000-2300 can choose ALR-3D high gain screen.

4. Select the size of the screen

The size of the screen needs to be determined according to the size of the indoor space and the viewing distance. Generally, for ordinary families, a 100-inch screen and a viewing distance of 4-5 meters are the most suitable.
